Casey Takes the She’s Ace Ladies Festival 2022

WPH Press, Carrickmore HC, Breacach (IRE), 1/17/22

The GAA hosted the first Women’s National Ranking Event of 2022 at the Carrickmore Handball Club in Breacach (IRE) featuring many of the best women’s players in Ireland. The She’s Ace Ladies Festival 2022 featured four round robin groups in the Elite Ladies 4-Wall, with 20-time WR48 champion Catriona Casey headlining Group A, Elise McCrory headlining Group B, Megan McCann headlining Group C, and Fiona Tully headlining Group D.

Casey had lost in the most recent edition of the She’s Ace Ladies Festival in 2020 to Martina McMahon and was determined to regain the She’s Ace crown she’s won on multiple occasions.

After winning Group A, Casey met Group B’s winner Elise McCrory in the upper bracket semifinal. McCrory tested the world’s best, ultimately falling short, 31-13, as Casey advanced to the final.

In a battle of two of the sport’s most exciting rising stars in the bottom bracket semifinal, Fiona Tully faced Megan McCann. The compelling clash between two magnificent shot makers produced a number of highlight reel shots and rallies, as both women showcased their athleticism and skill. Tully was able to overcome her rival, outlasting McCann in with a bruising 31-23 victory.

Casey showcased her exquisite skills in the final, demonstrating her command of all the shots, including one-inch high kills with either hand. Tully was up to the task, making Casey earn her points by striking the ball with power and purpose. Casey was too strong in the end, ending the match with a stunning left-handed rollout from 38-feet and taking the first GAA Women’s National Ranking Event of 2022.
