The Inner City Handball Association was proud to present the 44th Annual Long Island Handball Championships, March 13-15, 2026 at the LA Fitness in New Hyde Park, NY. The 2026 Long Island Handball Championships featured 150 players competing in singles and doubles brackets, with 50 of the players under the age of 20, making the 2026 LIO one of the biggest events in the country.
Men’s Open Singles
Tyree Bastidas claimed the 2026 Long Island Open singles against a strong 24-player field, cruising to the title without dropping a game.
Tyree faced familiar rivals Alvaro Rebaza in the quarterfinals and Mike Schneider in the semifinals, defeating both in two games.
Fast-rising Northeast star Jack Wu rallied against Jurell Bastidas in the bottom bracket semifinals, losing the first game and winning the next two to meet Tyree in the final.
Tyree and Wu battled in the final, exchanging a number of side outs and grueling rallies. Tyree blasted power passes and used the ceiling to keep Wu in the back court, but also ended rallies with kills, as evidenced by his fadeaway, 28-foot corner kill to end the match.
Semifinals
Tyree def Schneider 15-10, 15-6
Wu def Jurell 13-15, 15-4, 11-6
Final: Tyree def Wu 15-11, 15-11
