Waco, TX, WPH Press, 10/5/25

Tournament directors Martin Mulkerrins and Carr DuPuy were proud to present the Fall 2025 Aggieland Classic & R48/WR48 Qualifier on the first weekend of October at the Greater Waco YMCA.

The 2025 Aggieland Classic & R48/WR48 Qualifier was the second Race 4 Eight 25-and-under Pre Qualifier of the 2025/26 Race 4 Eight season (Abierto Juarez, September 2025, recap HERE), showcasing the sensational young talent from Texas A&M, Angelo State, and other college handball programs in the Southeast.

“The WPH has always been focused on inspiring the next generation of players and we were thrilled to partner with Martin and Carr in ensuring that the winners of the men’s and women’s open singles at the 2025 Aggieland Classic will earn a travel stipend to one of the 2025/26 Race 4 Eight stops,” stated the WPH’s David Fink.

“We are delighted to host this semester’s tournament at the YMCA in Waco,” stated Martin. “Our own facility is under construction and we are very thankful to Carr DuPuy, an Aggie graduate, for stepping up and helping us make this tournament happen. We are also excited to continue our great relationship and partnership with the WPH to make this year another WPH R48 and WR48 Pre-Qualifier. Making the pre qualifier for players 25 years and under is fantastic, as it will ensure the next generation of players will have the opportunity to compete for a chance to attend a pro tournament this season!”

25-and-Under Women’s Pre Qualifier Singles at the Fall 2025 Aggieland Classic

From Martin Mulkerrins:

“Amesley Davis and Caitlin Behne, both from Texas A&M, came into the tournament as the top two seeds respectively and both won their semi-finals in two straight games. In the final, Amesley found her serves and kills the quickest in game one as she raced into an early lead which she built upon to win the game, 15-4. But game two was a role reversal with Caitlin taking an early 7-1 lead and from there she finished out the game, 15-6, to force the tiebreaker. However, Davis regained the momentum in game three and would go on to win the tiebreaker 15-5 to win the title!”

Final: A. Davis def C. Behne 15-4, 6-15, 15-5

25-and-Under Men’s Pre Qualifier Singles at the Fall 2025 Aggieland Classic

From Martin Mulkerrins:

“Similarly, it was the top two seeds, Austin Colwell (Angelo State University) and Ashley Fuselier (Texas A&M University), who progressed to the finals. In game one of the final Colwell played flawlessly and raced out to a 10-0 lead in a matter of minutes. However, Ashley worked his way back into the game and somehow found a way to win in overtime, 16-14. Colwell built another comfortable lead (11-2 and 13-7) in game two and this time was able to halt a Fuselier comeback to win 15-12 to force the tie breaker. Fuselier seemed to carry the momentum he had gained in the latter part of game two into the tiebreaker and he would go on to win the game 15-6 making it two wins for the Aggies in the Pre-Qualifiers!”

Final: A. Fuselier def A. Colwell 16-14, 12-15, 15-6

JR WPH Clinic at the Fall 2025 Aggieland Classic

14-time Race 4 Eight champion Martin Mulkerrins graciously hosted a JR WPH clinic and skills competition during the event.

From Martin Mulkerrins:

“Participants (from the Fall 2025 Aggieland Classic) also had the opportunity to attend a clinic on Saturday with Texas A&M Coach, Martin Mulkerrins and Angelo State University Coach, Diarmuid Mulkerrins. While many clinics around the state over the past year have focused on serving, spin serves and the backwall shot, this weekend’s clinic focused more on defensive aspects of the game. Firstly, the use of the fist shot to the ceiling, how to execute and practice it were discussed and demonstrated. A number of participants took the opportunity to try this during the clinic and get feedback. The second part of the clinic brought participants through different strategies and drills to improve their non-dominant over-hand shot to the ceiling!”
