The USHA played host to the 63rd USHA National One-Wall Championships at Coney Island, as Tyree Bastidas aimed for his tenth One-Wall national title against a strong pro singles field that included his brother Jurell, Sheikh Hossain, and Carlin Rosa.

Tyree cruised to the final in the upper bracket, dispatching Sheikh Hossain in the semifinals, while Jurell avoided an upset in the bottom bracket semifinals by overcoming Carlin Rosa in a tiebreaker. “That match (between Jurell and Carlin) was crazy,” stated WPH correspondent Isaiah Hong. “Carlin has crazy power and an incredible left hand.

Jurell led 4-1 in the first game of the final, but Tyree quickly took over with low serves and fly kills. “Tyree was hitting a great low serve to the left and getting setups and killing the ball off the fly,” reported Hong.

After taking the first game, the Tyree led 8-6 in the second. “Jurell was winning points by serving deep and powering the ball at Tyree’s chest,” reported Hong. “Tyree starting to win rallies by moving Jurell side to side to force errors.”

Tyree closed out the match in two games, winning his tenth pro singles title at Coney Island.

“Winning just seemed like another day to Tyree,” stated Hong, who lost in two games to Jurell in the quarterfinals. “Tyree and Jurell play each other all the time, so they know what to expect from one another.”
