Written by Silver Back tournament director Don Stewart

Sixteen players—ages 60 to 82—competed in the 3rd Annual Dick Segil Silver Back Doubles Tournament at the Desert Hills Family YMCA in Scottsdale, Arizona.

This year welcomed four new “Rookies” to the Silverback club:
Dan Tarico, Rob Scola, Pete Dominguez, and Dave Malkin.

As always, teams were formed through a blind draw, keeping the matchups unpredictable and the competition lively.

Round 1 Results

  • Scola/Malkin def. Medill/Endres
  • Lockhart/Hoffman def. Hardy/Lindquist
  • Tarico/Warren def. Valade/Townsend
  • Eisenbooth/Murray def. Brooks/Dominguez

Semifinals

  • Scola/Malkin def. Lockhart/Hoffman
  • Eisenbooth/Murray def. Tarico/Warren

Finals

  • Scola/Malkin def. Eisenbooth/Murray
    —claiming the 2026 championship.

Following the finals, players and spectators gathered at Whiskey and Wings for appetizers, refreshments, and plenty of post‑match storytelling.

A special thank‑you goes to Dick Segil and the Desert Hills Family YMCA for hosting this year’s tournament and continuing to support the Silverback community. We’re already looking forward to next year—and to welcoming a fresh batch of new Silverbacks into the club.
