9th Annual 3-Wall Doubles Tournament Recap
The 2026 Arizona Shootout brought together 16 competitive teams from California, Colorado, and Canada for an exciting day of handball under the desert sun. Early morning starts helped players beat the heat, and by early afternoon, champions were crowned across four divisions.
OPEN Division Highlights
The OPEN division saw fierce competition with David Munoz and David Morales making a strong showing in the quarterfinals, but it was Matt Ortega and Matt Schiltz who ultimately took the title after defeating Brad Mrosla and Sean VanRoenn in the finals.
Open Dropdown Division
Ashton Steadman and Francisco Esperanza battled their way through the semifinals and finals to defeat Armando Navarez and Josh Watkins the Open Dropdown finals.
Contenders Division
A young team of brothers Alex and Miguel Sandoval showed great skill, but Rob Scola and Pat Bornhoef emerged victorious in the Contenders division finals.
130+ Division
The 130+ division featured seasoned players with Mike Lockhart and Gary Eisenbooth taking the championship after a strong final match against Brent Gowens and John Murray.
Special Moment
A heartfelt moment was shared when Sarah and Davis Hartman visited the courts. Davis, a Tucson player from the 1970s and ’80s battling terminal cancer, was able to enjoy watching handball once again, leaving a lasting impression on all attendees.
Thank you to handball ambassador Don Stewart for hosting the outstanding 2026 Arizona Shootout.
