Open Doubles
SR48 #2 pro Kyle English teamed with WPH MVP and R48 Portland Classic tournament director Conor Casey to take the Open Title, as the duo outlasted a resurgent Ryan Grossenbacher and Andy Romanchock in two close games in the semifinals and needed a tiebreaker to overcome top seeds Adam Bogle and Dalton Beall in the final.
“We had a tough semis because the courts got super wet and we could never find that rhythm,” stated Casey, who proudly won his first Oregon open state title. “I am finally getting in better shape and not hurting so bad that I can help Kyle, which makes a big difference. He definitely was the star of the tournament, I just helped where I could.”
“The ball slid on every rally and we just had to play through it,” echoed English, who just completed his third tournament in as many weekends. “Dalton played great, as always (in the final). I had to really turn it up. They beat us [in the] first game and then we went off in the second game. Tiebreaker was tough but Conor did a great job of getting everything back that was hit at him and I did my thing with athletic gets and hit it with power, since the court was slower. Fun times.”
Thank you to 2024 Oregon State Doubles Championships tournament director Robert Durbin. Thank you to the Alten Handball Foundation for sponsoring the junior entries.
