2024 Gopher Classic

The University of Minnesota Recreation and Wellness Center was proud to present the 2024 Gopher Classic on the first weekend of April at the University of Minnesota. By playing in the 2024 Gopher Classic, players supported the University of Minnesota’s handball program and courts.

Men’s Open Singles

Andres Cordova advanced to the final in the upper bracket with impressive two-game victories against former top ten pro Matt Hiber in the quarterfinals and top-seeded Tucson Memorial MVP Luke Sandy.

“Andres played really well,” stated Sandy. “I was up 19-9 on Andres in game two and lost, so pretty disappointed.”

Former Race 4 Eight pro Ryan Pesch advanced to the final on his home court in the bottom bracket and cooled off Cordova in the final, dropping the Minnesota transplant in two games.

Dave Vincent serves as the lead play-by-play announcer for virtually all matches, combining his unique perspective and personality with a lifetime of handball experience. DV brings 25 years of broadcast radio experience (in Oregon and California) to World Players of Handball & ESPN broadcasts and provides professionalism and wit to the amazing game of handball. DV also serves as the Executive Director of the World Player of Handball at the WPH headquarters in Tucson, AZ, working daily to grow the game of handball through innovation.
