McCarthy Wins #11, Casey Wins #7

R48 #NEXTGEN Star Diarmuid Mulkerrins Becomes the Big Alley Cat

Dublin, IRE, WPH Press, 7/3/24

The GAA hosted the 2024 Senior Softball Singles on the last weekend in June, featuring the continued dominance of two Irish legends and the emergence of two new stars.

Men’s Singles

After coming within one shot of upsetting R48 #2 Danos Cordova at the 2024 Juarez Open in March, R48 #NEXTGEN star Diarmuid Mulkerrins made history at the 60×30 All Ireland Championships this summer, winning the 60×30 Intermediate title and advancing to the final of the 60×30 Senior bracket.

Mulkerrins came up short against one of Ireland’s all-time greats, falling to Robbie McCarthy in the Senior final in two games for McCarthy’s eleventh Senior Softball title.

“It was a good game, thanks for the game Diarmuid, I’m happy with the result,” McCarthy told GAA Handball.

“Very happy with how the big alley season went overall,” stated R48 #17 Diarmuid Mulkerrins.

Final: McCarthy def D. Mulkerrins 21-7, 21-8

Women’s Softball Singles

The world’s best athlete continued her assault on the record books, as WR48 #1 Catriona Casey collected her seventh Senior Softball title in a competitive final against first-time Senior Softball finalist Mollie Dagg. Casey was relentless on the big court, showcasing her full arsenal of skills that has made her virtually unbeatable since joining the Senior/WR48 ranks in 2013.

Casey def Dagg 21-13, 21-12
