Houston R48Pro #5/WR48 #2 + Texas State Doubles Championships: Feb 18-20

Houston, TX, WPH Press, 1/17/22- The World Players of Handball and the Houston Handball Club are thrilled to host the 2022 Houston R48Pro/WR48 Powered by ESPN + Texas State Doubles Championships, February 18-20 at the Tellepsen Family Downtown YMCA, located at 808 Pease St., Houston, TX 77002.

The Houston Race 4 Eight, featuring the R48 Men’s Pro and the WR48 will be staged in Houston for the seventh year, with the Texas State Doubles Championships being held in conjunction with the 2022 Houston R48Pro/WR48, featuring Open Doubles, Super Golden Doubles (70+), Platinum Doubles (80+), Combined-age 80+ Doubles, Combined-age 100+ Doubles, Combined-age 120+ Doubles, and Combined-age 140+ Doubles.

The R48 Men’s Pro will start at 10 am on Friday, February 18, and the WR48 will start on Saturday morning, February 19. All players entering the R48 Men’s Pro and WR48 must be current WPH and USHA members.

The R48 Men’s Pro will be contesting its fifth stop of the seven-stop 2021/22 R48 X season, with players vying for valuable ranking points on the business end of the 2021/22 season. Expect to see the top R48 men’s pros in Space City, in addition to aspiring R48 pros from Texas and throughout the country.

The WR48 will also take center stage in Houston, as the Women’s Race 4 Eight tour will host its second event of the 2021/22 WR48 season and twenty-fourth overall WR48 event. Danielle Daskalakis won her first WR48 title at the first stop of the 2021/22 WR48 season in Nashville and will be aiming to win her second, but will have to overcome a strong field of American and Irish stars.

Joining the top pros in Houston will be the Southwest’s best skill level and age group players vying for Texas State Doubles Championships.

WPH RACE 4 EIGHT: The World Players of Handball’s 2021/22 Race 4 Eight X Powered by ESPN will reintroduce the world to 4-Wall pro handball following a 20-month hiatus due to the pandemic. Through the first nine Race 4 Eight seasons the Race 4 Eight hosted 63 events, featuring the world’s best players from the U.S., Mexico, Canada, and Ireland.

Similar to Nascar’s Nextel Cup and the FedEx PGA Playoffs, players earn points in the Race 4 Eight’s regular season stops to qualify for the season-ending Player’s Championship and bonus prizes.
