2021 Colorado State Doubles Championships

WPH Press, Denver, CO, 10/17/21

The Colorado Handball Association was proud to present the 2021 Colorado State Doubles Championships at the famed Denver Athletic Club on the third weekend in October, featuring more than 30 teams from five states in six divisions.

The Men’s Open Doubles featured six teams in a two-group round robin format. Luis Perez (CO) and Armando Ibarra (CO) advanced to the final in round robin Group 1 with two-game sweeps in both round robin matches, while CJ Laffey (CO) and Riley Kloss (CO) survived an 11-9 tiebreaker in their second round robin match in Group 2 against Jon Gutierrez (CO) and Aaron Therkilsen (CO) to win Group 2.

Gutierrez and Therkilsen took game one of the final and stood two points from the CO State title in the second before Ibarra and Perez forced a tiebreaker with several clutch kills. Ibarra and Perez rode their game two momentum into the tiebreaker, with both heating up with a number of kills to take the title.

Final: Ibarra/Perez def Gutierrez/Therkilsen 12-21, 21-19, 11-5
