2021/22 Race 4 Eight X Year in Review

After a 614-day pandemic-induced Race 4 Eight hiatus that started after the 2020 R48 RFC, the Race 4 Eight tour returned at the 2021 Tucson Memorial, featuring the game’s best at one of the tour’s most prestigious stops. The 2021/22 Race 4 Eight X featured seven R48 Men’s Pro events, three WR48 events, and one SR48 event, with 246 pro players competing in the eleven combined R48 Men’s Pro (206 players), WR48 (32 players), and SR48 (8 players) events.

Race 4 Eight X Highlights

  • R48 #1 Killian Carroll won his first five R48 X starts and stood one game from the first undefeated R48 Men’s Pro season in history at the 2022 Aces Player’s Championship
  • Catriona Casey completed her fifth prefect WR48 season, winning both of her WR48 starts (Houston, Salt Lake City) to collect her twenty-first and twenty-second WR48 titles (in twenty-four starts)
  • The only players to finish in the top three in all of their R48 Men’s Pro starts during the 2022/23 season were Carroll (6), Lucho (6), Mulkerrins (2), Brady (1)
  • The only players to play in all three WR48 events during the 2022/23 season were Ashley Moler, Mikaila Esser, and Kristen Hughes
  • In 70 Men’s Race 4 Eight Pro events, there have been 12 different champions and 17 different finalists. Of the 17 different finalists, 10 have been from the U.S., six from Ireland, and one from Mexico
  • In 25 WR48 events held since the inception of the WR48 tour in 2013, there have been four different champions: Casey (22), Reilly (1), McMahon (1), Daskalakis (1)
  • Streaks ending at the 2022 Aces Player’s Championship: Killian Carroll 42-match WPH singles winning streak, Danielle Daskalakis 9-match WPH singles winning streak
  • David Fink extended his SR48 winning streak to six SR48 events in winning the 2022 Aces SR48 Player’s Championship

Dave Vincent serves as the lead play-by-play announcer for virtually all matches, combining his unique perspective and personality with a lifetime of handball experience. DV brings 25 years of broadcast radio experience (in Oregon and California) to World Players of Handball & ESPN broadcasts and provides professionalism and wit to the amazing game of handball. DV also serves as the Executive Director of the World Player of Handball at the WPH headquarters in Tucson, AZ, working daily to grow the game of handball through innovation.
