Pacific Northwest superstar and R48 #22 Dalton Beall will enter the 2018 Portland Classic as the defending champion, while also serving as the reigning Oregon State singles champion and Pacific Northwest Regional singles champion. Still in his 20’s, Beall has established himself as one of the greatest players in Pacific Northwest handball history. “We are incredibly proud of Dalton in Oregon and we love seeing him continue to add to his legacy in the Pacific Northwest and beyond,” stated Pacific Northwest handball and WPH ambassador Nick Flores. “Dalton has really motivated a number of players in the Pacific Northwest to improve their games and has taken local and regional handball to another level.” Beall will have to contend with good friend and top PNW star Cody Townsend, a resurgent Aaron Garner, Stephen Stenberg, and a number of other top players to repeat at this year’s Portland Classic.

“We were thrilled with the inaugural Portland Classic last year and we are aiming to continue to build a great tradition each fall with the Portland Classic,” stated Portland Classic co-tournament director Conor Casey. “We are excited to make the Men’s Open singles division a R48 Pre Qualifier for the second consecutive season to inspire our local and regional players to play on the Race 4 Eight tour this season. Our goal is to attract top players from around the country and we will be arranging housing for those out of town player interested.”

“There are a lot of really good players in Oregon and in the Northwest and it’s going to be very exciting to watch the Pacific Northwest superstars battling for a Race 4 Eight trip,” stated Race 4 Eight tour administrator and WPH Executive Director Dave Vincent. “Growing up in Oregon, having a chance to play at the Multnomah Athletic Club was always incredibly exciting. The WPH is thrilled to partner with the Portland Classic, the Alten Handball Foundation, and the MAC in proving this great opportunity for the top players in the Northwest.”

The Men’s Open Singles will serve as a R48 Pre Qualifier, with the winner of the Portland Classic earning a travel stipend to the Race 4 Eight of his choice during the 2018-2019 R48 VIII season. The winner will choose to use his Race 4 Eight travel stipend from stops in Tucson (November), Portland (December), Montana (January), New Orleans LTE (February), Houston LTE (March), New York LTE (April), San Francisco (March), and Salt Lake City (May).
