Houston, TX, WPH Press, 2/24/17- The World Players of Handball and the Houston Handball Club are thrilled to host the WPH Race 4 Eight 6 Stop #5 & Texas State Doubles Championships, featuring the top professional handball players in the world competing on handball’s most prestigious professional handball tour live on the Watch ESPN App. The WPH Race 4 Eight 6 Stop #5 & Texas State Doubles Championships will be held at the Tellepsen Family YMCA, March 3rd-5th 2017, located at 808 Peace Street, Houston, TX, 77002 in downtown Houston.

Houston’s Race 4 Eight 6 stop features the closest race for number one in the history of the tour, with four players in contention for the WPH Race 4 Eight #1 ranking in Houston. Current Race 4 Eight #1 Mando Ortiz (CA), current WPH Player’s Champion Killian Carroll (IRE), and three-time Race 4 Eight 6 finalist David Fink (AZ) all control their own destinies in Houston, meaning a win for any of the three would lead to the coveted top spot. 10-time Race 4 Eight Champion Luis Moreno (AZ) could become #1 with a win in Houston and early round losses by Ortiz, Carroll, and Fink. The top four ranked Race 4 Eight stars will be joined by Elite 8 peers Emmett Peixoto (CA), Vic Perez (CA), Daniel Cordova (TX), and Luis Cordova (MEX) in the star-studded Houston draw. Top qualifiers Jonathan Iglesias (NY), Shorty Ruiz (AZ), Adam Bernhard (TEX), Ryan Bowler (CAN), Abraham Montijo (AZ) and a number of top challengers from across North America will be vying for eight spots in Houston’s main draw.

The WPH Race 4 Eight V Houston Stop #4 & Texas State Championships Powered by ESPN features not only the best R48Pro handball players in the game, but the top amateur handball players from Texas and surrounding states competing in the Texas State Doubles Championships alongside several Race 4 Eight pros. The WPH Race 4 Eight pros will also coach clinics for junior and collegiate players, inspiring the next generation of players to enjoy the greatest lifetime sport.

WPH RACE 4 EIGHT: The World Players of Handball’s Race 4 Eight 6 Powered by ESPN and features seven stops, culminating with The Player’s Championship in Salt Lake City in April of 2017. Similar to NASCAR’s Nextel Cup and the FedEx PGA Playoffs, players earn points in the Race 4 Eight’s first six stops to qualify for the season-ending Player’s Championship and bonus prizes. Ireland’s Robbie McCarthy claimed the first title of the season at the Simple Green U.S. Open in October, current Race 4 Eight #1 Mando Ortiz claimed the second event of the season in Minnesota, Luis Moreno became the second 10-time Race 4 Eight champion at the Plummer Bash in Idaho, and current WPH Player’s Champion Killian Carroll picked up his second R48 title in New Orleans at the season’s fourth stop. Following Houston, the Race 4 Eight will head to New York City and Salt Lake City to close out the R48 6 season.
