dvNew York City to Southern California: April 10, 2016-  The WPH’s ED’s birthday weekend featured three combined majors on both coasts, as Connecticut hosted the Northeast Regionals, featuring R48 top 10 star Stephen Cooney, while Southern California played host to the WPH Outdoor V Stop #3 Golden Park 1-Wall and the 2016 USHA National Masters Doubles.

Joining R48 star Stephen Cooney at the Northeast Regionals was current R48 pro Billy O’Donnell and all-around handball superstars Tyree and Jurell Bastidas. Due to wet courts and time restraints, the men’s open singles semifinals will be be completed next weekend in New York City, with Cooney facing Jurell Bastidas in the upper bracket and Blly O’Donnell facing Tyree Bastidas in the bottom bracket.

timboThe WPH Outdoor V Chino Hills Ford Stop #3 Golden Park 1-Wall featured the WPH Outdoor’s most prolific winners, Juan Santos and Samzon Hernandez, as well as many of Southern California’s top WPH Outdoor elite players. However, it was New York’s #1 1-Wall Big Ball sensation Timbo Gonzalez who stole the show at Golden Park. Gonzalez displayed the prodigious 1-Wall talents that have seen him hoist the sport’s most important titles throughout the past four years, dominating the field at Golden Park, as he has virtually every field in which he has faced all over the world in recent years. Gonzalez cruised to the final with impressive victories against 2015 Simple Green U.S. Open finalists Vic Duran and Samzon Hernadez and clinched the singles title against WPH Outdoor #1 Juan Santos. Gonzalez teamed with Shorty Ruiz to slam in the doubles, defeating Jose Venegas and Manny Sanchez in the final

MCThe 2016 USHA National Masters Doubles featured a number of SR48 stars, including Dr. Dan Zimet, Chris Watkins, Andy Schad, and Marcos Chavez. The SR48 stars were joined at Los Caballeros Sports Village by USHA Hall of Fame Member and Executive Director Vern Roberts, former USHA pro tour veterans and college teammates Rob Pearse and Matt Hiber, and “Grand Masters” Charlie Wicker, Merv Deckert, and Dr. Ed Grossenbacher. SR48 #1 and R48 top 15 pro Marcos Chavez teamed with his brother and fellow R48 pro Carlos Chavez to win the 35+, while John Robles and Chris Watkins claimed the 45+.
